St. Anne, mother of the Virgin Mary is venerated
in this place since the fifth century. The
pilgrimage began in the seventeenth century, following
the appearance of Yves Saint Anne Nicolazic, a pious
farmer. March 7, 1625, he discovered in the field of
Bocenno an ancient statue of the Saint. The Bishop of
valves, after investigation, acknowledged the
authenticity of these apparitions. It authorizes the
construction of a chapel in honor of Saint Anne. This
chapel was replaced by the current basilica (1865-1872).
