Sainte Anne d 'Auray in Brittany

Basilica of Sainte Anne d 'Auray in Brittany

History

  • St. Anne, mother of the Virgin Mary is venerated in this place since the fifth century. The pilgrimage began in the seventeenth century, following the appearance of Yves Saint Anne Nicolazic, a pious farmer. March 7, 1625, he discovered in the field of Bocenno an ancient statue of the Saint. The Bishop of valves, after investigation, acknowledged the authenticity of these apparitions. It authorizes the construction of a chapel in honor of Saint Anne. This chapel was replaced by the current basilica (1865-1872).
  • Sainte Anne is the mother of all hope, consolation of all affliction. Here, around the family, reading the Bible, on the theme of light, reconstruction of the Church ...
  • Visitors can reflect, have fun, relax and find inner calm. On September 20, 1996, before 150,000 pilgrims, Pope John Paul II invites us to be builders of the church in the new generations. Highlights
